Meet Joy

About the artist:

I have been running Christian art workshops for a number of years in Yorkshire, I have recently moved to the lovely East Yorkshire village of Eastrington near Howden which is easily accessible from the M62.

I am a Christian and a lifelong painter. I retired from the Education sector (post -16s) in 2013 where I worked as a tutor and a disability advisor at a large college in the Midlands. I now  live with my husband and dog in the beautiful East Yorkshire countryside .  I use a selection of media to produce original work influenced by nature and am always inspired by my Christian faith. I believe that art is a way to worship and to pray, and a way to be in relationship with God that cannot be replicated by other methods. For 10 years I was a lay worship leader in the Anglican Church and know that the creative approach to prayer can be used to motivate and engage others to develop and deepen their personal faith.  I see no divisions between secular and Christian art, the act of creating is intrinsic in all of us and is part of who we are. Christian art does not have to be restricted to art that portrays religious themes; God’s creation – the landscape, the sky, trees, flowers, animals and birds are all subjects which the Christian artist has the freedom to  paint.
Creating art and facilitating  ‘community-made’ art for worship and prayer allows me to integrate my  art-making processes into my own personal ministry.
